What Is Harm Reduction?
Harm reduction is a practical, compassionate approach to improving health, safety, and well-being. It recognizes that every person's journey is different and focuses on reducing risk, preventing harm, and connecting individuals to the resources and support they need.
At Let’s Build Foundation, harm reduction is rooted in dignity, respect, and the belief that everyone deserves access to care
—regardless of where they are in their journey.
Our Principles of Harm Reduction
We understand that positive change happens in many different ways. For some, that may mean seeking treatment or recovery support. For others, it may mean learning safer practices, accessing life-saving resources, or simply building a trusted connection with someone who cares. Harm reduction embraces all of these pathways.
Because every individual and community faces unique challenges, there is no one-size-fits-all solution. Harm reduction is about meeting people where they are, listening without judgment, and helping them take the next step toward a healthier and safer future.
We Meet People Where They Are
Every person's journey is different. We provide support without requiring someone to be at a specific stage of recovery, stability, or change before they can access help and resources.
We Focus on Health and Safety
Our goal is to reduce immediate risks while improving long-term well-being. Through education, resources, and support, we help individuals make safer, healthier choices for themselves and their families.
We Empower Individual Choice
We believe people deserve the information and support needed to make decisions about their own lives. Our role is to provide options, guidance, and encouragement—not dictate outcomes.
We Believe Recovery Is Possible
Recovery is not a single destination or a linear process. We honor each person's unique path and celebrate every step forward, no matter how big or small.
We Build Trust Through Relationships
Lasting change often begins with trust. By showing up consistently, listening without judgment, and offering genuine support, we create meaningful connections that open doors to opportunity and growth.
We Reduce Barriers to Care
Accessing help shouldn't be overwhelming. We work to connect individuals with services, resources, and opportunities while helping navigate the obstacles that often prevent people from receiving support.
We Strengthen Communities
Healthy communities are built through collaboration, compassion, and connection. By supporting individuals, families, and community partners, we help create safer, stronger, and more resilient neighborhoods for all.
We Lead With Compassion
Compassion is at the heart of everything we do. We approach every individual with empathy, respect, and understanding, recognizing the humanity and worth of every person we serve.
Resources We Provide
-
Naloxone is a life-saving medication that can reverse the effects of an opioid overdose when administered quickly. Let’s Build Foundation provides naloxone education and access to help individuals, families, and community members respond confidently during an overdose emergency.
-
Fentanyl test strips are a harm reduction tool that can help identify the presence of fentanyl in substances. By increasing awareness and reducing risk, these strips empower individuals to make safer, more informed decisions and help prevent accidental overdoses.
-
Xylazine test strips help identify the presence of xylazine, a veterinary sedative increasingly found in the drug supply. Access to testing resources can help individuals better understand potential risks and take steps to reduce harm.
-
Knowledge saves lives. Our team provides overdose prevention education, helping individuals, families, and community members recognize the signs of an overdose, respond effectively, and understand how to use naloxone in an emergency.
-
Recovery can feel overwhelming, but no one should have to navigate it alone. Our Peer Recovery Support services connect individuals with trained professionals who use lived experience, encouragement, and guidance to support recovery goals.
-
Finding the right support can be challenging. We help individuals connect with housing resources, treatment providers, healthcare services, food assistance programs, employment resources, and other community-based support systems.
-
Our Fluid Case Management™ approach is designed to meet people where they are. Through flexible scheduling, community-based meetings, and individualized support plans, we help individuals access services and stay connected to the resources they need.
-
Arizona summers can be dangerous. During heat relief season, we provide water, hydration supplies, cooling towels, sun protection items, hygiene supplies, and resource information to help individuals stay safe and healthy.
-
Access to basic hygiene products can have a significant impact on health, dignity, and well-being. We distribute essential hygiene supplies to individuals experiencing homelessness or other barriers to accessing everyday necessities.
-
Through our network of community partners, we help connect individuals and families to local organizations offering shelter, food assistance, healthcare, behavioral health services, legal support, workforce development, and more.
